Fast in speed, it can create up to 24 pages per minute using the black printer toner that is needed for production. This black toner lasts about 4,000 pages before needing replaced, which means you probably won’t find yourself replacing them often. When using the Samsung ML-2551 toner cartridges, you can hit resolutions as high as 1200×1200 dpi, which will leave documents looking sharp and sophisticated.

Connection is offered wirelessly or via parallel, ethernet or USB port. The Ml-2551 offers duplex printing and an LCD screen for previewing. Plain paper, postcard paper, labels, transparencies and envelopes can all be printed on, and up to 1,100 pages can fit on the trays at one time. There is only one single toner cartridge that is used in this machine, and it is black.  Only black and white documents can be printed, so those in need of color printing will need to look elsewhere.  The one toner cartridge can last for as many as 3,000 pages, which should last a while.  When replacements are necessary, users can find them online or sometimes in local office supplies stores.  Though they are available new, remanufactured versions are also available that will provide the same performance but cost considerably less.

Unfortunately, this machine does not allow users to use their creativity as much as other laser units and even some inkjet printers.  Text documents will look decent, though the resolution will only reach as many as 300 dpi.  Graphics printing will not go well with the SF-531, lacking color and precision.  So don’t expect to use this unit to make fun greeting cards or transparencies.  Rather is should be used for simple invoice copying at the office or research paper copying at home.

The quality and speed of the SF-531 are not super impressive.  Transmission speeds are only about 6 seconds per fax, and they are even slower when making copies.  The fax memory is large, and it has the basic features that can be found on any standard fax machine.  Overall, it is a reliable and efficient device.
